SUSAN Forbes
In addition to being a certified life-coach (don't laugh, that training was legit and hard!), Susan also holds a BA in Sports Management and Master’s degree in Student Development in Higher Education with an emphasis on Student-Athlete Development.
Susan's thesis focused on the transition out of sport for female athletes (she's been deep in student-athlete development for a long time!).
Susan founded NXTVB in January of 2022 and has since gone on to help countless ballers find their best fits for life at the next level! NXTVB holds a success rate of over 90% for athlete's that opt-in to long-term 1:1 support for the duration of their recruiting process.

Susan was recruited as a middle blocker but played most of her college career as an opposite (coaches love versatility!).
Susan committed to a Top 10 nationally ranked program in March of her senior year—proof that good things happen even “late in the game.”
Her PLAYING EXPERIENCE:
Susan married her college sweetheart, Joe, who also played volleyball (he’s 6’7” if you’re wondering!). They have three tall boys—ages 14,12, and 9
As a family they have 1 dog, 2 cats, and 3 resilient fairground fish that somehow refuse to give up.

Meet Coach Jessie
Jessie grew up south of Seattle and was a two sport athlete in high school and ultimately chose to play volleyball in college, starting her career at Gonzaga before transferring to Sac State.
Jessie has been coaching club volleyball for the past twelve years and loves seeing her athletes develop skills both on and off the court.
Jessie provides a very unique perspective to our team as she knows first hand some of the obstacles college coaches face when trying to get to know prospects as her husband has been coaching DI volleyball since 2010, leading recruiting for the past ten years. makes This her very familiar with the college landscape, recruiting process and how things have evolved over the last few years.
Outside of volleyball, Jessie is a devoted mom of three who loves hiking, beach days, and cheering her kids on at their activities—all while being a rockstar NXTVB advisor and supportive wife to a college coach.
Jessie has been coaching club volleyball for the past twelve years and loves seeing her athletes develop skills both on and off the court.

Meet Coach SONJA
Susan and Sonja go way back, raised in the same small mountain town of Lake Arrowhead, CA - it was almost impossible not to know each other!
While their playing days never overlapped, Sonja went on to compete at the highest levels of the sport, building a career that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Sonja is a former All-American at the University of Oregon, where she was a four-year team captain, led the Ducks to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, and became the program’s all-time points leader. She was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
After college, Sonja spent 12 years playing professionally overseas in countries such as Brazil, Italy, Turkey, and China, while also representing Team USA from 2014–2017—earning a gold medal at the 2017 Pan American Cup and a silver medal in 2015.
Following her professional career, she transitioned into coaching, serving on staff at both Oregon and Colorado State, along with years of private training and camp work. While she loved the college game, Sonja deeply missed the one-on-one mentorship that helps athletes grow beyond the court—leading her to join the NXTVB team as a coveted recruiting advisor.
Sonja recently welcomed her second baby boy, Hank, and will be advising a small, select group of NXTVB athletes this year—allowing her to pour into each family with intention, experience, and heart.
We are beyond grateful to have Sonja on our team and to offer our athletes access to her global playing experience, coaching insight, and genuine passion for mentorship.
